Do you sometimes wonder how to stand out in your crowd … be recognized for your uniqueness … perhaps even celebrated for your difference? Well my friend, in order to stand out you must learn to be bold. Now, I am not talking about being rude or insensitive … but plain and pure BOLD… you know, pursuing dreams and goals others don’t understand or even agree with however, they make sense to you. Perhaps you are not following through on decisions, behaviors or actions that require you to step outside the boundaries of what others think is normal and acceptable (at least by their standards) because you fear the risk of rejection. I say … the buck stops here! You can’t continually allow what other people think about YOUR FUTURE to keep you from doing what you know is best and right for you.
I can tell you from experience that confronting criticism becomes a little easier when you remember that you and only you are accountable for the choices and decisions you make whether to live or not live a great life. If you don’t believe me think about this … do you remember the last time you followed someone’s recommendation against your better judgment and it turned out, you were right and they were wrong as the decision or action did not fare well for you? Wait, I am not done yet … what happened when you tried to pass the blame to the individual who gave you the “brilliant” idea? You probably got a response similar to this … “well it is your life, you should have known better than to listen to me.” See, it comes back to you being accountable for the final decisions you make regarding your own life.
It is not easy being the first and sometimes the only one to set a trend. I also know it hurts to be criticized especially when you jump out and lead the way with nothing but a gut feeling … but … I also know that if you are to succeed in life and business you will need to have a confident attitude.
Confident, secure leaders:
- are able to handle being the only ones doing something others are not; and
- allow others the same opportunity because they are not interested in dominating someone else’s life.
To avoid growing old and feeling like somewhere along the way you got lost, distracted or your life got derailed … you must keep your eyes open for opportunities, step out of your comfort zone and be bold to make the unpopular but right choice to lead and live your best life.
To your continued success!
